Landlocked is a series I created while living in Denver, Colorado.  I felt a need to be near natural  bodies of water, in particular, the sea.  I traveled to San Diego and spent many days walking in Imperial Beach, a beach in the farthest southwest corner of the country before the Mexican border.  I was captivated by the lines of motion created by the bullwhip kelp that washed ashore.  The mark-making of nature as well as the visual culture of the area inspired these works.
